truenorth
Who are we?
truenorth LLC (truenorth) energy is a joint venture between the Ohio based, The Lyden Company and Shell Oil Company. The Lyden Company is a regional, third-generation family run company. Shell is . . . ahem, much larger. But it's a partnership that works for both of us.
Together we operate or supply over 320 Shell franchise sites in communities throughout Illinois, Ohio, and Michigan. Primary markets include Chicago, Cleveland, Toledo, Dayton, Youngstown, Columbus, and Detroit.
Our store locations include over 100 convenience stores under the truenorth brand, featuring a variety of signature brands.
truenorth Management, LLC and truenorth Trucking (The Lyden Company subsidiaries) manage and supply all the stores.
And how did we get here?
Once upon a time, before there were convenience stores . . . . . . .
We began as Lyden Oil in 1919. From a family-owned bulk fuel delivery business, we grew to 150 filling stations in 50 years, selling 62 million gallons of gas per year by 1969. In 1982, Lyden Oil opened its first convenience store called Fast Check Food Mart.
In 1999, after an 80-year relationship with Amoco, The Lyden Company entered into a partership with Shell to form truenorth energy, LLC. Today, truenorth operates or supplies over 320 stations, selling in excess of 400 million gallons of gas per year.
We're proud of what we've accomplished. Who would have thought that these guys could make something of themselves? We're just a bunch of regular people, working hard to give our customers the best we can, and trying to do right by the communities we serve.
